Asian Coalition for Housing Rights
ACHR is a regional network of grassroots community organizations, NGOs and
professionals actively involved with urban poor development processes in Asian cities.
Australian Council of Social Service
ACOSS is the principal voice of low income and disadvantaged people in social and
economic matters in Australia.
Australian Housing and Urban Research Institute
AHURI works to link quality research and the development of ideas with policy
development, programme evaluation and project development in public and private
sectors. AHURI also assists policy makers at all levels in identifying trends,
establishing possible solutions and drawing together the best information and
understanding within Australia whilst drawing on international experience.
Centre for Equality Rights in Accommodation
CERA was established to ensure that housing rights guarantees under human rights law
actually work for low income households, and to address both systemic and individual
access to housing issues. CERA has become a leader within Canada in constitutional
human rights advocacy on poverty and housing issues.
Centre for Housing Policy
CHP is committed to a research focus that explores the relationship between a wide
range of housing issues and other aspects of social policy. Its six research themes are
homelessness and access to housing, health and community care, interaction of housing
and welfare provision, funding management of rented housing, the changing nature of
home ownership and housing issues for young people and children.
Centre for Urban and Community Studies
CUCS is a graduate research facility in Toronto, Canada. It draws from a diversity of
disciplines - for the most part in the social sciences - including geography and urban
planning, political science, and sociology. Research covers a range of areas of inquiry
relevant to cities and communities, locally, nationally and internationally.
European Housing Research Network
EHRN assists European research institutes and individual researchers engaged in social
science housing research. The Network arranges and supports conferences within the
housing field and has also set up a number of working groups dealing with specific
problems on a cross-national, European basis. A main purpose of the Network is to
promote contacts and communications between researchers and with practitioners
within the housing field. EHRN publishes quarterly a newsletter to provide a forum for
the exchange information in the field of housing research.
Habitat Platform
HP acts as a clearinghouse for knowledge and information in the broad field of Habitat,
through referring people to other organisations or sources of information.
Homeless International
HI is a UK-based charity that supports community-led housing and infrastructure
related development in partnership with local partner organisations in Asia, Africa and
Latin America. The initiatives are all led, developed and managed by the local

Habitat International Coalition (HIC)
HIC is an independent, international, non-profit movement of some 400 organizations and individuals working in the area of human settlements. Members include NGOs, CBOs, academic and research institutions, civil society organizations and like-minded individuals from 80 countries in both North and South. A shared set of objectives bind and shape HIC's commitment to communities working to secure housing and improve their habitat conditions.
Human Development Centre
HDC began as a single kindergarten in the Bangkok slum Klong Toey. Twenty-five
years and 55,000 kids later HDC has grown into a model program for grassroots
community development. Programs have expanded to include 32 schools, an adult
vocational program, an AIDS hospice, social work outreach, shelter for homeless boys
and girls, soccer league, credit union, and plans for a legal aid clinic
Inner City Resource Centre
The Inner City Resource Centre is a non-profit advocacy and information centre focussing on housing and service delivery related problems in the Johannesburg inner city area.
The Institute for Palestine Studies
The Institute for Palestine Studies is an independent, non-profit Arab research
organization, which is not affiliated with any political organization or government. The
Institute is devoted to a better understanding of the question of Palestine. Books in the
Institute series are published in the interest of public information.
International Institute for Environment and Development: Human Settlements
IIEDHS works to reduce poverty and improving health and housing conditions among
the urban populations of Latin America, Asia and Africa. The Programme also seeks to
combine this with promoting more ecologically sustainable patterns of urban
development. They publish twice yearly Environment and Urbanization. This is one of
the world's largest circulation journals on urban and environmental issues.
International Union of Tenants
IUT is a non-governmental and non-party political organisation, safeguarding the
interests of tenants. IUT has 40 member associations in 35 countries, of which 24 are
European. Objectives include co-operation between tenants through sharing
information, aiming to realise the right of everyone to adequate housing, a sound and
healthy residential environment, affordable rent and secure tenure.
The Korea Centre for City and Environment Research
KOCER is a non-profit and independent research organisation founded in October
1994. KOCER attends to scientific analysis of urban issues and finding their reasonable
solutions, especially focusing on the problems of the grassroots. KOCER conducts
theoretical research on practical issues and is involved with social actions and
movements.
Lincoln Institute
LI is involved in the debate and dissemination of knowledge of critical issues in land
use and tax policy through professional development courses, research and publications.
Lumanti
Lumanti is dedicated to supporting urban poor communities in Nepal in terms of
organisational, financial, and shelter upgrade support. Work is focused on facilitating
the empowerment of women through a network of savings and credit groups. Lumanti
now works with 60 slum and squatter communities in the Kathmandu valley.
National Law Centre
NLC established in 1989, serves as the legal arm of the national movement to end
homelessness in America. The Law Centre works for long-term, constructive solutions
to homelessness. The Law Centre will apply its ten-plus years of advocacy experience
to continue to press for policies that help to remove barriers and obstacles faced by
homeless families and allow them to realise a greater self-sufficiency.

Poverty & Race Research Action Council PRRAC is a non-partisan, national, not-for-profit organization convened by major civil
rights, civil liberties and anti-poverty groups. Their purpose is to link social science
research to advocacy work in order to successfully address problems at the intersection
of race and poverty.
Shack Dwellers International
SDI is a global alliance of slum dwellers in the developing world.
Urban Resource Centre
URC was established in 1993 with the assistance of the United Nations Development
Programme UNDP, primarily to support the urban low income communities in Sri
Lanka for improving their housing and living environment. The Urban Resource Centre
grew out by urban low income community based organization CBOs and small NGOs
for provision of information sharing, networking, leadership training, technical
assistance, skill development and systematic data collection to improve the capacity for
community based self management, good governance and upgrading of low income
settlements.
