Key Housing Rights Issues
Looking closely at the main issues
The issues involved in housing rights are highly complex, varying from the developed
to the developing world and changing over time. However a number of key issues are
central to an understanding of housing rights, and are in most cases relevant to an

and will be added to in future):

worldwide are inadequately housed today. This section examines how the term adequate housing is
defined under international human rights law.
Security of tenure One of the fundamental requirements for adequate housing is proper security of tenure – the legal right to occupy and use one's dwelling and land.
Forced evictions and displacement What is displacement and what are forced evictions?
Women and housing rights The promotion and protection of women's right to housing.
