Report an Eviction/Request Assistance
Contact evictions@cohre.org
If you have been the victim of a forced eviction, or you know of an eviction, or you believe
that an eviction is being planned, and you would like to:
- report the eviction to COHRE
- request support, advice or other assistance
- request COHRE's involvement in your campaign against the eviction, or
- ask COHRE to bring the eviction to the attention of other agencies in our networks
....then you should contact us at evictions@cohre.org, or by writing to: Coordinator,
Global Forced Evictions Programme, 83 rue de Montbrillant, 1202 Geneva, Switzerland.
It would be helpful if you could report the eviction by completing the COHRE Evictions Information Sheet (this document is available for download below).
Every eviction reported will be stored in COHRE's Global Forced Evictions Database. We distribute information on the evictions to an extensive network of organisations
and individuals resisting evictions around the world. Where possible, we will take further action in support of an evicted or threatened community.
We will try to support any person or group who approaches us. Please note that, while we
support all struggles against forced evictions and will endeavour to do whatever we can to
assist those involved in such campaigns, there are real limits on COHRE's capacity to
respond to requests for assistance. Where we are not able to assist directly, we will try to
link you with organisations working on forced evictions issues in your area or region.
In the meantime an important step in resisting forced eviction is to stand together with others
who are in the same position, and to try to negotiate with the authorities on alternatives to
the eviction. It may also be necessary to take legal action to stop an eviction. If the
eviction process goes ahead, the community also has the option of non-violent resistance.
